As families and businesses across America face the fallout of another avoidable government shutdown, Congressman Joe Courtney spent his weekend milling around a protest instead of doing his job – working with his colleagues to reopen the government.

While Democrats point fingers and stage photo ops, Republicans are focused on solutions. Our leaders have put forward responsible proposals to keep essential services running, protect pay for our troops, and get Washington back to work. Joe Courtney and his party chose politics over progress.

“While hardworking families worry about missed paychecks and shuttered offices, Joe Courtney was more interested in playing politics than leading,” said Mike France. “The contrast couldn’t be more clear:  Republicans are fighting to govern responsibly, and Democrats like Joe Courtney are failing the people they were elected to serve.”

This shutdown is another example of why Washington needs new leadership. It’s time for representatives who will roll up their sleeves and get results, not grandstand at protests while the government grinds to a halt. Joe Courtney first ran for office nearly 40 years ago – it’s time for a change.
