Ledyard, CT – Today, Navy Veteran and former State Representative Mike France announced that he is launching a campaign for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District, pointing to growing political momentum for Republicans in Eastern Connecticut and growing dissatisfaction with incumbent Democrat Joe Courtney.

“The success of common sense Republican policies across the country—and Joe Courtney’s constant opposition to them—has made it clear that Eastern Connecticut deserves better.

I believe our district is ready for a new direction, and that’s why I’m launching a campaign to flip this seat and bring real leadership to Washington,” France stated.

France emphasized the stark contrast between his vision and Courtney’s voting record.

“This district deserves a Congressman who will fight for Connecticut values, not one who votes in lockstep with AOC. We need leadership that will work to cut taxes, not raise them by $2,900 per family. And we need someone who will uphold our immigration laws, not turn a blind eye to them.

In eastern Connecticut, we’re still fighting back against the Biden inflation crisis, and Joe Courtney doesn’t seem to want to help. He could have voted to reduce tax on tips, he voted no. He could have voted to reduce tax on overtime, he voted no. He could have voted to reduce tax on Social Security, he voted no. And every day we see news of the apprehension of another career criminal, in the United States illegally, and Joe Courtney still voted against additional funding for border security and immigration enforcement.

Joe Courtney is out of touch, and it’s time for a new voice representing us in Congress.”

France also cited data that points to growing Republican strength in the region. President Trump performed better in CT-2 in 2024 than in 2020, and voter registration continues to shift in favor of Republicans. Flipping this seat could be crucial in maintaining a Republican Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mike France has served our country in the Navy, our community on the Town Council, and our state in the Legislature. Mike completed 20 years of active duty with the Navy, including four deployments, and continues to serve the Navy in the defense industry.
